Sophomore Addie Cate Henderson shows that being an athlete is about more than just having talent and skill—it’s about dedication, commitment, and, most importantly, teamwork.

She loves being an athlete at Meek because she says everyone feels like one big family: “Everyone on every team is so close, and our coaches are always supportive and encouraging,” she said.

While she’s a three-sport standout in volleyball, basketball, and golf, Addie Cate’s heart has always been drawn to volleyball. She competes as an outside hitter and left back and stays active during the off-season by participating on a club team.

Addie Cate’s dedication to volleyball shows in her accomplishments: she has earned All-State, All-County, and All-Area honors, more than 1,000 career kills, a state runner-up finish, and selection to the state finals all-tournament team. However, she’s also a formidable athlete in basketball, recently earning All-County honors.

She looks up to Andi Jackson, a Nebraska volleyball star, not only for her talent but for her leadership. “She gives her team a lot of credit and always puts them first. I want to be like that,” she said, reinforcing her commitment to being a team player, a mindset she carries into every area of life.

Off the court, Henderson is equally team minded. She participates in the Big Brother/Big Sister program, serving as a mentor for elementary students. She is also active in HOSA and has a career goal of becoming a chiropractor, as inspired by Dr. Renee Bowen.

In her free time, Henderson enjoys reading, listening to music, and cooking, especially baking muffins, cookies, and brownies. She also loves crafts and DIY projects, often making picture frames or paper flowers as handmade gifts.

Whether she’s competing on the court, mentoring younger students, or exploring her future career path, Addie Cate leads with humility and purpose. With her steady work ethic, team-first mindset, and genuine care for others, she will continue to make a positive impact at Meek—one that will extend far beyond the game. 67
